The magic of Summit Studios

I've know Darren Mahuron from Summit Studios for about a year now and let me tell you, not too many people work as hard as this guy. He's told me stories of hiking through hills carrying tables, chairs, lighting and camera equipment, all to find the perfect place for a shoot. I've seen him pull 12 hour days, one after the other, just to hear he went home and worked some more. I tell you this because when you look below and begin to gasp in awe you will ask yourself, "how did this guy get so good?" The answers are above. Yes, Darren and wife Lisa have a great amount of natural talent, but talent alone will get you nowhere. It takes lots of work, tons of dedication, sleepless nights, and grueling days. The fruits of these labors are evident in the following images. Now, feast your eyes on the greatness of Summit Studios.

These are some pieces from Darren and Lisa Mahuron's "Bonnie and Clyde" series.

"Federal Reserve"

"The Vault"

"TNT"

"Pursuit"

"The Pool Hall"

"Exit Wound"

"The Getaway"

Right about now you are wondering where you can see more, or inquire about purchasing fine art prints and mounted prints of Summit Studios' work, right? Of course we won't leave you hanging on that one. If you want to see work in person, Summit Studios is located at 107 Linden Street in Fort Collins, CO. The studio is open to the public each 1st Friday of the month from 6-10pm or other times by appointment. If you can't get to Fort Collins, just go to the website and Myspace below to contact Darren and Lisa for commissions, commercial work, and fine art.

Gas Masked Munny

We couldn't resist posting this cool custom 4" Munny from Felix Jackson, Jr. Maybe it's the nice little spray nozzle on the top with the orange paint dripping down. Maybe it's the snazzy way he took the photo. Maybe you should check out more at http://www.flickr.com/photos/felixjacksonjr/

The Gross Uncle - Daily sketch 054

Our first submission to the brand new blog! An illustration and poem sent to us by The Gross Uncle.

Polka-dot Pete was kinda neat,
he made a living on the street,
selling odd things and being a cheat,
no sentence he spoke was ever complete.

Magpie is now digital!

Friends and enemies, lend me your eyes. A few weeks ago I had decided that, as much as I love Magpie Magazine, I needed to shut it down. Things are going so well with my personal art that I just don't have the time to make a printed publication full of trips to the printers, hours of folding and stapling, trips to the places that carry the magazine, trips to the post office to mail it out, etc. However, as I logged in today to cancel our Myspace account, I saw quite a few friend requests, and I just couldn't kill the 'zine. I started the Magpie back in 1994 and it has gone through many changes, so why not go through another?

THE MAGPIE IS NOW A BLOG. Yes, yes, it's the cyber train that everyone wants to ride right now, but why fight it? It saves paper and the energy resources, it's faster, and it's global. Bottom line is, the idea of a blog will keep Magpie alive.

I am excited to make this change that I have previously been resiting because this is going to open up so many new possibilities for everyone involved. Please continue to support Magpie by subscribing to our feed and by telling your friends about it. Most importantly, tip us off and send your submissions! All submissions still go to readmagpie@gmail.com

Let's get this blog rolling! We love you all :)
